About BYND
When the building is the emergency, where are your plans?
Municipal emergency management | Fire Chiefs • CEMCs • Emergency Operations Centres
Picture this: a major incident hits and you can't get into City Hall. The Fire Chief is directing the response. The CEMC and designated municipal officials are activating the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). And the plans, contact information and business continuity records they need may be inside the very building they can't get into.
Your team needs access to critical information wherever the emergency takes them, not only when municipal buildings, networks or internet connections are available.
Meet PlanConnect
PlanConnect, from BYND, is a mobile app that puts your municipality's emergency plans and critical information on the mobile devices of authorized personnel. Easy step-by-step navigation helps people find the right procedure and move between plans without losing their place. Plans stay available without an internet connection.
From the incident site to the EOC
Your Fire Chief and CEMC might be the same person or different members of your team. Either way, PlanConnect helps put a consistent set of plans and resources in the hands of the people who need them: the Chief, the Deputy, the CEMC and selected EOC officials.
It's a practical companion to your municipality's existing emergency management processes and Incident Management System (IMS). It doesn't replace them.

BYND / Municipal emergency management
Ready for the incident. Ready for the year ahead.
PlanConnect and BYND's proposed municipal support package bring emergency access and your annual program activities together.
Mobile tools for response
- Offline plan access: Integrated emergency management plans, business continuity information and critical resources on your mobile devices.
- Guided navigation: Step-by-step processes, reminders and quick movement between multiple plans.
- Incident records: Automatic event logs, records of completed processes and incident dashboard analytics to support review and reporting.
- IMS forms: BYND is considering a core set of mobile IMS forms for EOC personnel and field responders. Which forms to include and how they'll be shared are still being finalized.
A practical annual support package
Fire Chiefs and CEMCs are busy. That's why BYND is developing a municipal offering built around the recurring work of maintaining an emergency management program:
- An annual emergency management exercise, with supporting documentation
- Annual training, including IMS training and emergency plan review
- Support for updating your municipal emergency management plan
- Public preparedness communications, including social media, with documentation of the activity
- Reports from BYND-led training and exercises to support your annual compliance records
Package scope and deliverables will be confirmed with each municipality. Your municipality is still responsible for annual compliance. BYND's services are intended to support your program and your documentation.
